GFCI, Outlets & Switches

GFCI outlets protect you from electric shock anywhere water and electricity might meet, and the National Electrical Code requires them in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements, and any outdoor outlet. A lot of older homes in Baldwin County were built before those rules existed, which means standard two-prong outlets are still sitting in spots where code now requires GFCI. What the process looks like

For a single outlet or switch fix, call Jimmy and describe what’s going on. Most of the time he can give you a ballpark cost on the phone. The visit itself usually takes 15 to 30 minutes per device. He’ll shut the circuit down at the breaker, swap the device, test it under load, and clean up before he leaves.

For a whole-home outlet upgrade, the first visit is a walk-through. Jimmy will count what needs to change, identify which circuits need GFCI protection at the panel versus at the outlet, and quote the job. The work itself is usually a single day for an average home. When the visit is over, every required location in your home meets current code, and you’ve got a clear picture of what was done.

If you’re adding a new outlet rather than replacing one, the conversation starts with where you want it and what you plan to plug in. A workshop with a table saw needs a different circuit than a desk with a laptop. Jimmy will tell you whether he can pull from an existing circuit or whether the load means a new run from the panel. Either way, it’s licensed and insured work, permitted where required, and done right the first time.

Electrical Outlet & Switch Relocation

Kitchens get remodeled. TVs get wall-mounted. A new couch pushes the reading lamp two feet to the left of where the plug is. Electrical Outlet & Switch Repair

An outlet that only holds a plug in when you jiggle it, a switch that has to be flipped twice to catch, a receptacle that arcs when you unplug a lamp, a three-way switch pair that’s out of sync since somebody rewired one side wrong, those are repairs, and they’re worth taking seriously. Loose terminations and worn contacts are where most residential electrical fires actually start.

Jimmy repairs outlets and switches by pulling the device out, checking the wiring behind it, tightening or re-terminating anything that’s backed out, and replacing the device itself when the contacts are worn or the housing is cracked. If a device is backstabbed (wire jammed into the quick-connect hole on the back of a cheap outlet), he’ll re-terminate to the screw. If the box itself is scorched or the wire insulation is heat-damaged, that’s a bigger conversation, and he’ll tell you what’s involved. Licensed and insured, and done in a way that doesn’t leave the same problem waiting for you next year.
